Featuring humorous and comic dialogues and performances,  xiangsheng , also known as crosstalk, is the most popular and influential art form of Chiense  quyi  (folk talking-singing arts). It emerged as an independent form of performing art during Emperor Xianfeng's reign (1851–1861) of the Qing Dynasty.
