Ewenki Ethnic Group
It is an ethnic minority group in China. The Ewenki people were historically called Suolun, Tungus, and Yakute due to the difference in geographical distribution and livelihood until they were officially named Ewenki in 1957. With a population of 34,617 in 2020, they are mainly spread across the Ewenki Autonomous Banner, Old Barag Banner, Zalantun City, Arun Banner, Genhe City, Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner and Oroqen Autonomous Banner of Hulun Bair City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Nehe City of Heilongjiang Province. The Ewenkis have no written script of their own but do have a spoken language, which is part of the Tungus branch of Manchu-Tungus group of Altaic family of languages. The Mongolian language is universally used in schools in the pastural areas, while Chinese in both spoken and written forms is more widely used in agricultural and mountainous areas. The Ewenkis live together with Oroqen, Mongolian, Daur, Manchu and Han ethnic groups.
