It is an ethnic minority group in China. With a population of 9,168 in 2020, the Oroqen people mainly live in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Heilongjiang Province. They have their own spoken language, which belongs to the Tungus branch of the Manchu-Tungus group of the Altaic family of languages. They do not have their script and generally use Chinese characters. After 1953, the Oroqens gradually settled down from their nomadic life style.
