Yugur Ethnic Group
It is an ethnic minority group in China. With a population of 14,706 in 2020, the Yugur people mainly live in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County in Gansu Province and Huangnibao Yugur Township in Jiuquan City of the same province. The Yugur people living in the western part of Sunan Yugur Autonomous County speak Western Yugur (Yaohur), a branch of the Turkic language group of the Altaic family of languages. Those living in the eastern part speak Eastern Yugur (Enger), which is a branch of the Mongolian language group of the Altaic family of languages. The Yugur people don't have their own script and use Chinese characters instead. The Yugur people call themselves "Yaohur." Their ancestry may be traced back to the Sarik Uygurs (Yellow Head Uygurs).
